Visting Taipei 101

Taipei 101 is part of the World Financial District here in Taiwan. It was officially the tallest building in the world from 2004 til 2010 when the building in Dubai opened. It has a big pendulum in the middle of the building that serves as a damper to withstand typhoon winds and earthquakes. It really is a modern marvel and so neat to see.

There are 5 stories under ground and 101 above. The mall...it's a-mazing. It's beautiful and clean and high dollar. We are used to Woodland Hills in Tulsa, and the Summit in Birmingham...definitely a neat experience.

The food court is huge. It has everything you could ever want from American to Taiwanese to Hong Kong to Japanese. Seriously, these people know how to build malls. I have to say it was a pleasant surprise to see Baskin Robins with my beloved mint chocolate chip in stock. Even the Braums in Sapulpa can't seem to do that!

The supermarket in the mall was overwhelming.

The 5 story mall with Dior, Prada, Van Cleef and Arpel, Gucci, etc...as far as the eye could see!

Dogs are EVERYWHERE and well loved here. This is the food court and this sweet dog sat next to me at the table.

Then we headed to the observatory of the tower. We rode the world's fastest elevator. We went 89 floors in 35 seconds. Yes our ears popped!

This city is beautiful!

Then we headed to the outdoor observatory on the 91st floor. That's 1273 feet high for all you Americans.

The damper is HUGE and the picture doesn't do it justice. I did tell Andy that if I saw that sucker swaying (in an effort to keep the building from swaying), I was outta there.

Tomorrow we'll check out the Flower Market (heard it's as big as a football field) and the Jade Market.
